Aphasia is considered an extreme disorder whereas dysphasia becomes known as a less dangerous version of aphasia. Aphasia is a disorder that can become known as the loss of someone’s ability to speak or understand what someone else is talking. Dysarthria does not include speech disorders from structural abnormalities, such as cleft palate and must not be confused with apraxia of speech, which refers to problems in the planning and programming aspect of the motor–speech system. Aphasia and dysarthria are both caused by trauma to the brain, like stroke, brain injury, or a tumor. Aphasia occurs when someone has difficulty comprehending speech, while dysarthria is characterized by difficulty controlling the muscles used for speech.
